This is our Igloo All-Terrain Cooler Review. The Igloo All-Terrain Cooler is a unique product that is designed to handle those remote off-the-paved-path areas. It contains rugged pneumatic tires that reduce the force needed to move by up to 80%. It also comes with a foot pedal which helps to engage and disengage tires. Igloo is always trying to find new ways to stand out from the crowd and this is a perfect example of that.
It has conventional carrying handles plus an extended tow handle for when you want to take advantage of the wheels. Other features include a threaded drain plug, a quick access hatch, and UV inhibitors on the entire outside. It is available in 100 and 110-quart options and is made of hard plastic.
Insulation Ability –
This ice chest does a reasonably good job of keeping things cold. Expect an average amount of ice to last 3 to 4 days with the occasional opening. Taking advantage of the quick-access hatch significantly increases ice life and the lid makes a decent enough seal to last for a long weekend. The product’s outer shell is quite thick and sturdy so don’t anticipate much heat transfer to occur through it.
Mobility and Durability –
You can tell extra effort was taken to toughen up this cooler. The wheels are oversized and quite beefy and will have no problems going over rocks, tree branches, and other hard and sharp surfaces. The pneumatic feature makes pulling this around significantly easier than conventional wheeled coolers and you will often forget that you are lugging around a 100+ quart cooler full of ice and other items.
The fit and finish are great and look the part of a rugged ice chest. The only weak point is the latches and hinges, as they are made of plastic and can potentially warp or ultimately break. They are noticeably beefier than most of the other plastic-based coolers on the market but it is still something to consider. You will pay more for a premium cooler, but weak points like latches will usually be more beefed up on those higher-end models.
Visual Appeal –
The cooler looks the part. The wheels give it a very aggressive look, which is nicely accented by the thick plastic shell and oversized handles and hinges. It would be nice to have colors other than white but it is a minor complaint. There is also nothing in the way of ways to customize the cooler with team colors or logos.
Cost –
Expect to pay at the top of the budget tier to the bottom of the intermediate tier for this product. We are pretty happy with this price considering the “total package” that you are getting. A lot of other brands that offer wheels with their coolers will ask for a much higher price.
Overall Rating –
The Igloo All-Terrain Cooler Review earns 3.5 coolers out of 5. A great product for those times that you will be getting off the beaten path and need to carry large amounts of cold goods. This is a mostly well-built cooler that is very user-friendly and easy to transport. The insulation ability is good enough for several days as well, and the price is more than acceptable.
