Pelican Elite Wheeled Cooler Review

This is our Pelican Elite Wheeled Cooler Review.  The Pelican Elite Wheeled Cooler is intended for those looking for a long-lasting and extremely tough cooler but also aims for the mobile convenience that exists in wheeled solutions.  This line comes with the traditional tough qualities of Pelican coolers.  This includes oversized press & pull latches, 2” thick polyurethane insulation, molded lock-in lid, stainless steel hardware, and many other unique conveniences such as molded tie-downs, fish scales, and even a bottle opener built-in.  The cooling performance is advertised as lasting for 7 to 10 days.  This product is available in a variety of colors and in 45 and 80-quart sizes.  It is made of hard polyurethane and metal hardware.

Insulation ability – 5 star

This product will keep ice cold for very long periods of time.  The inclusion of the raised base, extremely thick plastic shell, and quality hardware and lid results in an air-tight seal that keeps in cold and keeps out heat.  True to promises, ice should last a week or more with these coolers, even with opening it on occasion.  That being said, the performance isn’t quite as good as you would see in the largest, non-wheeled sizes since they have a larger volume and can fit more ice.  However, it is still very good.

Mobility and durability – 5 star

First off, even for being “smaller” coolers these are still quite large.  This is the result of having the very thick 2-inch wall which adds quite a bit of size to it.  In addition, this extra material comes at the cost of being quite heavy.  The wheels are a huge help here and make what would otherwise be a burdensome process much easier.  There is an extended side handle that pivots up that you can tow the ice box with.  In addition, there are the conventional built-in molded side handles for those times you decide to or are unable to use the wheels.  The build quality for this item is very good and should take any abuse you can throw at it.  The polyurethane used is very hard and strong and does not dent or scratch easily.  In addition, the hinges are quite thick and should not be weak points.  All hardware is stainless steel so concerns of rust are negated as well.

Visual Appeal – 3 star

This is a very formidable-looking cooler.  There aren’t a lot of aesthetic features but what is there is thick and of high-quality.  This results in a product that, despite being somewhat “plain” still has a great premium quality to it.  The wheels look great and match the “tough” look that the rest of the ice chest portrays.  Small features such as the ruler on the lid, drain spout, and bottle opener help to break the mundane surface.  The color options are vast and all come together really well, which can really help set the looks apart from others despite the plain look.

Cost – 2 star

These are high-quality ice boxes and as such come with a premium price tag.

Overall Rating – 4.5 star

The Pelican Elite Wheeled Cooler Review earns 4.5 out of 5 coolers.  A great-performing cooler that will keep items chilled for long periods of time and should hold up for years of usage.  In addition, the wheeled component greatly assists in what is otherwise a very heavy and bulky product.  Expect to pay the high price tag for this but we feel it is worth it if you are looking for a long-term investment for your cooling needs.
